Jon Holmes is a fine woodworker, pre-production modelmaker and cabinetmaker in Oberlin, Ohio, located 35 miles southwest of Cleveland. In 1999 and 2000, he completed the summer and the nine-month course of study at the College of the Redwoods woodworking school with noted furnituremaker James Krenov.
Jon's own one-of-a-kind designs are characterized by clean lines, beautiful form and inventive functional details. In addition to Krenov, his influences include Scottish architect and designer Charles Rennie Macintosh, and Edward Barnsley. He accepts and has completed private commissions, as well as unusual requests; in 2001 he built a set of bedframes from blueprints by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Wright Penfield house located in Willoughby, Ohio. He is a member of The Furniture Society.
Woodworking represents the intersection between art and craft, where form and desire for functionality create lasting beauty.
